Hello, my name is Ron Beck. I chose the HVAC curriculum in high school, and after graduating, I entered the Air Force for 4 years. I was active in the Heating and Air Conditioning trades before retiring at the end of 2020, having spent a little over 41 years in the field (as of August 2025).

Positions: 11 years as a Technician installing and servicing gas and oil heating equipment.
Solar system installation and service.
Air conditioning installation and service.
9 years as a Service manager at an oil company
2 years at a manufacturer of heating equipment in technical services
Managed tech services for 1 year
19 years as Training Manager & Technical Services associate.

Experience:
I performed Manual J heat losses, created wiring and piping diagrams, and developed PowerPoint presentations. Additionally, I trained our new service technicians and traveled extensively across the US and Canada, training well over a thousand contractors, reps, and distributors. I have written tech articles for over 4 years for the US Boiler Report. On the tech phone lines, I have assisted thousands of technicians while they were on job sites to resolve their problems, answering their installation and wiring questions. Visiting hundreds of problem jobsites across the country was part of my job responsibilities. I was responsible for editing the Heating Helper book and assembling the cleaning guides for two high-efficiency boilers. I have worked with the engineering group over the years, providing input based on field job site visits.
I love the industry, teaching new and seasoned techs, and passing on what I have learned. All the pages I have added to the website are the result of years of learning, doing, and sharing.
If you want to make comments on the pages, please do, especially if it is constructive.

I continue to teach live boiler installation and boiler electrical troubleshooting classes, online seminars, and maintain the Comfort-Calc website.

The most recent task is a book I just introduced (July 26, 2025), dedicated to understanding the use of electric meters and using wiring diagrams to assist in troubleshooting a boiler issue correctly, so you are not replacing the wrong part the first time.
