A buffer tank is a water tank installed between your heating boiler and the heating system.

2. What is the purpose of a buffer tank?

The tank adds water volume to the heating system to decrease boiler short cycling.

3. Are buffer tanks a new idea?

Although the buffer tank idea has been around a long time the popularity of the buffer talk has increased mostly over the last decade with the introduction of high efficiency boilers.

4. When would I need a buffer tank?

When your heating boilers are too large, or you have some small heating zones the boiler will short cycle. Short cycling will cause lower efficiency, higher fuel bills and more maintenance.

5. Will a buffer tank save me fuel dollars?

If your heating boiler is short cycling it will save you money and decrease maintenance.
